4 Things to Look for in a Summer Suit

Posted by Joe Button on

With summer temperatures starting to soar you might be wondering how to pull off wearing a suit. Thankfully, there are many materials and style options to help keep you cool even in the hot summer sun. Here are 4 things to consider for your summer style:

1. Fabric

No one wants to be that guy dripping with sweat, with pit stains visible from across the office. Your fabric choice can help reduce your chances of sweating through your shirt dramatically. Cotton is your friend. Breathable and lightweight you have a few options: linen, seersucker and cotton-linen. You want something that feels light but will be functional and hold up the structure of a suit.

2. Cut

Look for slim cut, 1-2 button style suits that will bring in the waistline and add structure to your shoulders. Obviously, going bespoke is the easiest way to achieve the right fit but if you buy off the rack choose the suit that fits a bit more snug. In hot weather you don’t want to be swimming in your suit.

3. Colour

Stick with light colours that evoke that summer feeling: sky blue, pastels, off-whites, camel, and greys should be your go-to. White linen suits are the standard choice for summertime but consider purchasing a camel colour instead. It’s more versatile and you’ll get more bang for your buck. Worried about those pesky creases? Grab a steamer over an iron to extend the lifespan of your linen suit.

4. Accessories

Consider your summer suit a blank canvas. Once you get down the basics it’s time to personalize your outfit with accessories. A knit tie will keep you looking polished even without your jacket on. With a camel or off-white linen suit we love the look of a bright-coloured pocket square to finish the look. Don’t be tempted to throw on a pair of thongs or sandals with your more relaxed-fit suit. Instead, opt for loafers, moccasins, or yachting shoes. Finally, mix it up and swap out your leather briefcase for a casual messenger bag. Head to toe summer perfection!
