Top Wedding Suit Trends for 2014

Posted by Joe Button on

Navy was king of 2013, but what will 2014 bring us? We’ve gone to the experts (and our customers!) to see what’s hot now and what to expect for 2014. While grooms may never wear fuchsia suits, we’re excited to report that more men are having fun with their big day ensemble. So let’s dive right into the top wedding trends for 2014.

Peacocks

2013 may have been the “Year of the Selfie”, but individualism follows us into the New Year. More and more grooms are looking to stand out and express their individual personalities and unique styles. “Different” isn’t a bad thing, and grooms are flocking to bespoke retailers to achieve this. Think customised fabric keyholes, colourful linings, buttons and satin-trimmed lapels. While groomsmen are also encouraged to go bespoke, grooms are more interested in standing out from their ushers, not matching them. We predict a big trend will be the groom in a light grey and his mates dressed in darker heather grey. All eyes on him!

Fabric/Colour/Fit

Lighter suits made in light wools and cashmeres will be all the rage in 2014. Keeping with the slim cut trend over the past few years, grooms will be looking slim and dapper in light fabrics like linen, wool, and even checks. Pastels such as baby blue and soft rose are also popular for summer weddings. For winter weddings, look to textured fabrics such as glen plaid checks and tweed. Texture will give your look an added richness which will translate into photos. Finally, double-breasted jackets and three-piece suits are all the rage, both on the runway and off.

Groomsmen

A popular trend for 2014 will be incorporating colours from the bridal party into groomsmen attire. We’ve seen it in ties, vests, pocket squares and our personal favourite: suspenders. Matching colours within the bridal party is awesome for photos and group mentality. Just make sure you love the colour – as most men don’t look fabulous in chartreuse.
