Who rocked the 65th Cannes Film Festival the most?

Posted by Joe Button on

Whilst Joe Button managed to see no one at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival (one of our co-founders was in Cannes last week, but apparently only saw $$$ cars and boats) we did do our rounds of the fashion mags & blogs to scope out who was best dressed. So ta-da here’s our verdict!

The ladies - it’s really impossible to choose between Marion Cotillard and Diane Kruger when they have (perhaps unintentionally?) tried to outdo each other every day at this year's Cannes with no real success because they’ve both somehow managed to look completely flawless on every occasion. It’s also a bit catty to compare the two when they share an ex-husband/current baby daddy – so we won’t create more awkwardness and will just say that they equally dazzled/ shined/ wowed and made the rest of us appear extremely inadequate. (Does Marion Cotillard wake up looking like that? We hope not!)

The Lads – we’re going to say that youngsters Zac Efron and Tom Sturridge managed to look quite extraordinary this year. We’re usually more inclined to the silver fox types but Zac Efron did himself fashion wonders with that fitted Prince of Wales plaid suit, small collared shirt and of course, a white pocket square to top things off. An awesome ensemble and probably only suitable for someone his age or you run the risk of looking like…well Prince Charles.

Tom Sturridge who’s quite possibly sporting the strangest haircut in England at the moment got the thumbs up from us in his YSL suit complete with navy satin lapels, hidden placket shirt and wait for it…a black velvet bow tie. A totally amazing combination and of course, the effortless and eclectic nature of his outfit has now officially put the Mr Sienna Miller mark on his name (although he is already her baby daddy…so we’re not sure if that still counts).

We loved what Brad Pitt wore and his hair was very Legend of the Falls-esque (that’s a good thing in our books) – but we’re also of the opinion that if you’re not Brad Pitt – ditch this outfit. It’s very “I’m going for the understated super star ” look and obviously we’re not all super stars and in our vain attempt to copy his style we may somehow end up achieving the “who do you think you are - Brad Pitt???” look.

Anyway, we know the press has said that there wasn’t enough glamour (blah blah blah) at this year’s Cannes Film Festival but we don’t really agree. It’s been a bit more fun, relaxed and experimental and yes, things were a bit simpler, but glamour isn’t always about how many sequins and crystals are attached to your dress and until we can all look like Marion Cotillard in a ponytail, methinks we should just agree to disagree!
