Measure around the base of your neck where your shirt collar would normally sit, allowing enough room to comfortably insert two fingers between your neck and the tape measure. |
Place the tape measure where the shoulder and armhole seams meet on a well-fitting shirt. Measure from this point to the same point on the opposite side. The tape measure should arch upwards across the width of your shoulders. |
Measure from the highest point of your shoulder, close to the neck, and measure straight down your back to the desired length. If you plan to always tuck your shirt in, measure to the tip of the thumb. |
Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape horizontal. Place two fingers between your chest and the tape measure. |
Measure around the widest part of the waist, usually around the level of your belly button. Place two fingers between your waist and the tape measure. |
Measure around the widest point of your hips, placing two fingers between your hips and the tape measure. |
Place the tape measure where the shoulder and armhole seams meet on a well-fitting shirt. Measure straight down your arm to the beginning of your thumb. |
Measure around your bicep at its fullest point, near your armpit. Place two fingers between your bicep and the tape measure. N.B. Please don't flex your muscles like this show-off! |
Measure around your wrist at the point the hand joins the arm, placing one finger between your wrist and the tape measure. If you normally wear a watch on the wrist you are measuring be sure to wear the watch when taking the measurement. |
Lay your shirt out flat and measure the distance between the middle of the button hole and the middle of the button on the inside of the collar. |
Button up the shirt and place it with it’s back facing you. Place the tape measure where the shoulder and armhole seams meet and measure straight across to the same point on the opposite side. | Place the tape where the shoulder and neck seams meet and measure straight down the length of the shirt. |
Place the shirt with it’s front facing you and measure from the base of the left armpit straight across to the same point on the opposite side. |
Keeping the shirt with it’s front facing you, measure the width of your shirt at its narrowest point. |
Still keeping the shirt with it’s front facing you, measure from the lowest point on one side of the shirt straight across to the same point on the opposite side of the shirt. |
Measure from the top of the sleeve at the point where it meets the shoulder seam down to the bottom of the cuff. |
Measure from the armpit of the shirt straight across to the same point on the opposite side of the sleeve. |
Spread the cuff out flat and measure the distance between the middle of the buttonhole and the middle of the button on the inside of the cuff. |
