Best dressed men at the 2012 Oscars

Posted by Joe Button on

By now, the whole world knows that Meryl wore Lanvin, Gwyneth wore Tom Ford & Angelina Jolie’s right leg is a separate entity from her body that has its own twitter account (@Angiesrightleg) but what about the men? With the guys this year, it was all about the details and there were some very dapper getups on the red carpet. There’s probably a thing or two we could all learn from this especially if you ever need to go to a black tie event! Here’s our take on who got it right.

Gary Oldman completely nailed it with his classic white shirt and 3 piece Paul Smith tuxedo. His jacket, with the notch lapel and midnight blue contrast trim was fashionably subtle as opposed to completely OTT (over the top). And of course – those thick black frames with the metal arms was the perfect combination of utilitarian and vintage cool.

Christopher Plummer shows that style is ageless. Captain Georg (that’s pronounced Gay-org for you non-SOM fanatics, not George as in Costanza) Von Trapp completely stole the show when he walked his 84 year old self down the red carpet in a midnight blue velvet tuxedo with binding tape on the lapels and a tiny flower petal pin (we think it was an edelweiss).

Jean Dujardin who apparently loves America now (of course he does) killed it with a wing collar and an over-sized bow tie. This was perfectly balanced by his wide lapel tuxedo, which evened out the whole look. And one more thing that worked to his French favour – his hair & eyebrows!

Who do you think should be on this list?
